Hudu Yunusa Ari, the Resident
Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State for the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC), has been placed on administrative leave by
President Muhammadu Buhari.
Additionally, Ari was to be
investigated and, if found guilty, prosecuted by President Buhari. Ari got into
problems when, while the election results were still being tallied, he
pretended to be an official who had returned Aisha Ahmed Dahiru, also known as
Binani, and declared her the victor of the Sunday's governorship race in
Adamawa.
Willie Bassey, the head of
intelligence at the Government Office of the Federation, made the announcement
of his suspension on Thursday. According to the announcement, Ari would be
placed on administrative leave as the Inspector General of Police looks into
his behavior and activities during the by-election for Adamawa State.
Ari's remarks, however, were
disregarded by INEC because they represented the resignation of a mission
officer who was returning. The National Commissioner of Police, the
Director-General of the Civil Service, and the Commander-in-Chief of the
Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Forces were also requested by the Electoral
Commission to look into the involvement of officials who presided during Ari's
illegitimate election as president. declared the outcome.
The security chief received harsh
criticism from many Nigerians for arriving with INEC REC to assist him and for
announcing the conclusion of the activity.
