A REPENTED BOKOHARAM ARRESTED FOR STEALING

Baba-Goni Mohammed Ibrahim, a repentant Boko Haram militant, was one of 110 suspects paraded by the Borno State Police Command on Friday, May 19, for various offenses.

The State Commissioner of Police, Abdu Umar, told reporters that "some repentant Boko Haram insurgents hide under joblessness to commit crimes."

Baba-Goni was detained for stealing eight wrappers and a few other pieces of clothing from one Hajiya Lami of Maiduguri's Mashidmari ward, who employed him as a housekeeper.

Baba-Goni, who repented from terrorism "three years ago," told reporters he couldn't say when Hajiya Lami hired him.

"She employed me over four months ago," he explained, adding, "but she never paid me for even a month; so I stole her wrappers as compensation for the unpaid salary."

CP Umar stated that after a thorough investigation, the 110 suspects apprehended for various offenses such as armed robbery, rape, handset snatching, and kidnapping would be charged in court.

He stated that the command will not give up its efforts to clear Borno State of all criminals in order to ensure a peaceful society.
