ASUU VS FG: COURT SETS TO DELIVER JUDGEMENT

The Federal Government sued the Academic Staff Union of Universities, and the National Industrial Court is set to rule on the case (ASUU). The prolonged strike by ASUU, which lasted more than eight months, had been brought to court by the federal government.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) was told by the National Industrial Court on September 21, 2022, to get back in the classroom.

Remember that the defendants (ASUU) were given seven days to submit a reply on a point of law to the Federal Government's substantive application at the previous hearing on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

ASUU and their solicitors have been served with the application and an affidavit in support of it since September of last year, but they have yet to file a defence despite the seven days the court gave them last week.

In a decision on an interlocutory application submitted by the federal government, Justice Polycap Hamman prohibited ASUU from continuing the strike it started on February 14 until the federal government's lawsuit against them was decided.
