Indomie Super Chicken
The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control's Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has hinted at the causes of the "Indomie Super Chicken" flavor's ban in Nigeria
Adeyeye claims that the agency has begun sampling and
testing other flavors of Indomie noodles, along with their seasonings, for the
presence of ethylene oxide. Fewer clinical trials, registrations, and
productions of the flavor were mentioned by Adeyeye.
She assured Nigerians that the products would be thoroughly
investigated at both the factory and market levels.
The results of the sampling and analysis of the products,
according to Adeyeye in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday and
signed by the agency, would be made public.
"The instant noodles sold under the Indomie brand and other brands
registered by NAFDAC for the Nigerian market are produced in Nigeria. Only
after passing a rigorous regulatory process that addresses all facets of good
manufacturing practice is NAFDAC registration status granted. The Malaysian and
Taiwanese Ministries of Health have recalled Indomie Instant Noodles 'Special
Chicken Flavour' due to the potential presence of ethylene oxide, a substance
linked to an increased risk of cancer. This is known to the management of the
National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
NAFDAC is moving quickly to expand the investigation to
other brands of instant noodles sold to Nigerians and to randomly sample and
analyze Indomie noodles (including the seasoning) for the presence of ethylene
oxide.
We use this channel to reassure the public that a complete investigation of the
products will be carried out at both the factory and market levels.
Additionally, the general public is hereby informed that NAFDAC has not
authorized the implicated Indomie Instant Noodles Special Chicken Flavour for
sale in Nigeria. Noodles cannot be imported into Nigeria because they are on
the Federal Government of Nigeria's Import Prohibition List, the speaker
continued.
