The electrocution of two employees of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) in Lagos State was verified by the police command in that state on Sunday.
The incident happened on Lagos
Island in the Obalande neighborhood.
The PPRO stated that another
employee of the EKEDC from Lagos Island reported the case to the Lion Building
Division of the command on Saturday at around 5.55 p.m.
He said that the EKEDC employee
claimed that on Saturday, one of his coworkers, whom he only gave the name
Umaru, was allegedly electrocuted while excavating to find a defective
transformer cable at the P&T Obalende location.
"During the incident, a
48-year-old coworker called Sunday Awaruwa who attempted to save the victim was
also electrocuted.
"In response to the report,
investigators went to the scene, took pictures, freed the victims, and took
them to the Lagos Island General Hospital, where the attending physician
pronounced them dead.
The IDH Morgue in Yaba received
their remains for an autopsy. Investigation is ongoing in the interim,
according to Hundryin.
