A delegation from
the US Embassy has visited the Navy Base in Onitsha, Anambra State, in the wake
of the sad incident on May 16 that took the lives of four US officials and five
police officers.
The incident, which was allegedly carried out
by Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) militants, took place in the state's
Ogbaru region.
The group thanked
the Navy for acting quickly to save two embassy staff members who were
kidnapped during the event. The trip was led by Mr. Jim Suor, the regional
security officer of the US Consulate in Lagos.
The US delegation
met with the base commander, Navy Captain G Osuobeni, during the courtesy visit
on Saturday, May 20, 2023.
A source said that the leader of the US delegation praised
the Nigerian Navy's efforts and indicated how grateful the US Government was
for the cooperation and commitment of the security organizations in Anambra
State, particularly the Nigerian Navy.
According to the source, "the head of the US team said that the US Government is very appreciative of the efforts and support of the Nigerian navy and other security agencies in Anambra state in particular."
