WASE: I WON'T STEP DOWN FOR ANYONE!

Idris Ahmed Wase, the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, has made it clear that he will not drop out of the running for speaker of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly.

The job has been assigned to the North West geographical zone by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and the deputy position has been assigned to the Southeast.

Wase told State House reporters that the constitution does not recognize zoning after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Additionally, he said that the APC's zoning plan did not follow the Constitution's declaration of the federal character.

Wase emphasized that the letter from the National Working Committee (NWC), in which the zoning was described as advisory, also permitted for continuous discussions of the issue.

"I am participating in the race, and by God's grace, I shall win. Wase proclaimed, "I have not withdrew or resigned for anyone.

The Nigerian Constitution's Section 14(4), which mandates that the makeup of the Government of the Federation and its agencies shall reflect Nigeria's federal structure, was referenced by the speaker.

Wase claims that the purpose of this clause is to ensure loyalty and harmony throughout the country, to foster national unity, and to prevent people from particular states or ethnic groups from dominating.

Wase emphasized that Nigeria has six geographical zones and that there are currently six presiding officers in the government to emphasize the value of varied leadership.

He stated that ignoring the deputy speaker position for his zone would not only violate the federal character principle set forth in the constitution, but would also overlook the substantial support and votes that his region has given the administration.

Wase stated, "I am not just speaking for myself.

"You can give us the position of deputy speaker but not the deputy senate president. Even if we have given the government one of the best results in terms of voting and support, you cannot ignore us, he said.
