The arrest of Mr. Usman Alkali, the Inspector General of Police, and AIG Hafeez Inuwa, the Force Secretary, has been mandated by the Abuja National Industrial Court.

The order was issued in response to a court order that was broken and was deemed to be contemptuous, according to AL-LABEEB MEDIA.

The IG is accused of disobeying a court order to reinstate several police officers who had graduated from Courses 33, 34, and 35 of the police school and were thought to have been forcedfully retired by the force.

In order to reverse their forced retirement, the officers who had been fired by the IG petitioned the court for an injunction.

The court, presided over by Justice Oyebiola Oyewumi, then issued an order directing the IG, the Police Service Commission, and the Force Secretary of the Police to reinstate the officers who had been forced into retirement.

"It is on record of this court that the court delivered a judgement in this case on April 19, 2022, and ordered that the judgement creditors and applicants should be reinstated forthwith," the court's most recent order stated. This court has a record of the Police Service Commission ordering the Inspector General of Police to abide by the court's ruling. The Police Service Commission is a statutory body with the authority to appoint, promote, and discipline judgement creditors and applicants.

It is also noteworthy that, in a letter dated July 27, 2022, the Chief of Police, Legal, the head of the department of the Nigerian Police Force, urged the Inspector General of Police to obey or comply with the court's ruling. However, the Inspector General of Police has refused to do so.

"This is a Federal Republic of Nigerian officer who took an oath to uphold the law, a law he has now failed to uphold or refused to obey. It is also important to note that he and the Force Secretary have had numerous opportunities to appear before the court and provide justification for why they should not be found to be in contempt of it. However, despite the fact that they have both received numerous notices of the court's orders, they still feel it is appropriate to disobey them and desecrate this sacred space.

Justice isn't just for the wealthy; it's also for the weak and vulnerable. I pause to say that if the Inspector General of Police finds it so difficult—or at least it seems so—to obey a straightforward court order, I wonder what kind of leader of an enforcement agency like the police he is. If he, as the commander of the Nigerian Police Force, chooses or elects to flagrantly disregard the advice of the Police Service Commission and his own officer, the CP, Legal, to comply, I also wonder what kind of example he is setting for his officers. I must say that this is absurd and disgusting.

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, and the Force Secretary, AIG Hafeez Inuwa, are to be detained and brought before this Court for the necessary action in light of everything stated that is in accordance with the record of this court.

The case was postponed until October 9, 2023, by the court.
