The nation's military high command has expressed its confidence in the growing support it's receiving from citizens, stating that the days of criminal elements wreaking havoc across the country are numbered.

According to a recent statement by the Defence Headquarters, this surge of public support is proving instrumental in their operations, leading to tangible outcomes. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, conveyed this optimistic outlook in a statement issued on Friday.

In his words, "The extraordinary level of cooperation, collaboration, and support that we've been receiving from citizens nationwide has significantly bolstered our operational successes. Nigerians are stepping forward, raising their voices, and the military is taking decisive action in response."

He further emphasized, "The active involvement of citizens in exposing the nefarious activities of these hostile elements has set the stage for their downfall. They are left with two choices: to surrender immediately or face the consequences. The military's determination to maintain this momentum is unwavering."

Maj. Gen. Buba also stressed the importance of reporting any information, saying, "If you possess crucial information, do not hesitate to share it. The military is committed to translating information into action."

In recent weeks, the military achieved remarkable progress, eliminating 38 terrorists and apprehending 175 gunmen. Providing specific details, Maj. Gen. Buba stated, "During the week leading up to August 11, 2023, our forces neutralized 38 terrorists and arrested a total of 175 gunmen, criminals, and collaborators. Additionally, we detained 20 kidnappers, 30 individuals involved in collaboration, and 17 pipeline vandals."

He further revealed that the military had successfully rescued 89 individuals who had been kidnapped. The troops thwarted oil theft attempts, preventing the pilferage of a substantial amount totaling N607,346,750.00.

Maj. Gen. Buba also disclosed another accomplishment, reporting, "Between July 31 and August 3, our troops apprehended 18 suspected members of a criminal group known as 'Malians' in Borno State. Acting on intelligence, we targeted their hideouts in the Bolori 2 general area, Jajeri Bayan Quarters, and Tudu general in Maiduguri Municipal City."

The operation yielded significant results, as the military succeeded in apprehending these 18 individuals. In addition, they confiscated suspected substances, including cannabis and cough syrup, along with five mobile phones.

The military's firm resolve, combined with the burgeoning support of citizens, paints a promising picture in the fight against criminal elements. The nation can anticipate safer days ahead as these collaborative efforts continue to yield positive results.
