A group of Nigerian religious leaders has travelled to the Niger Republic as part of a diplomatic mission to help bring harmony to the West African nation.

Al-Labeeb Media shared that the clerics were warmly welcomed by members of the Nigerien military on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Their visit was made possible by the green light given by President Bola Tinubu, who saw the importance of their involvement in negotiating with their counterparts in Niger.

Earlier last week, President Tinubu had a meeting with leaders from different Islamic groups within the country. They requested his permission to step in and initiate talks with their counterparts in Niger.

These clerics are not in favour of resorting to military action in Niger. They believe that aside from the grave outcomes of armed conflict, their religious beliefs and the teachings of the Quran emphasise trying peaceful mediation first in situations like these before considering any form of warfare.

Heading the delegation is Sheikh Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, a respected figure and the national leader of the Jama’atu Izalatu Bidi’ah wa Iqamatus Sunnah.
